Ten minute drive from Friday Harbor, midway down Old Johnson Road a family of deer and a red fox welcome us as we drive through one of the many meadows around this property. At the very end of the road, a contemporary home with grass roof and weathered exterior sits on the edge of The Straits of Haro, the mid March sun setting over Vancouver Island and lighting up snowy peaks of The Olympic Mountains. The resident eagles fly by. That’s our first evening, sans the orcas! Suzanne comes to greet us and provide an orientation to the home and the island. Though we’ve both been recently vaccinated., we are comforted by all her COVID safe considerations. We wake mornings after a great night’s sleep with coffee in hands sitting up in the king size masterbed looking out the high windows and French doors at whatever is happening to the west- fierce storms with crashing waves on the rocks, ships on their way up the Strait, baby deer and their moms dropping by for breakfast. When not exploring the island (don’t miss The National Historic Park with acres of prairie and grass walking paths and miles of beach five minute drive from the house) we spend our days and evenings in the open concept living room and kitchen. Great kitchen. We love to cook! Windows everywhere with thrilling views. This home is modern, comfy and cozy and romantic! It’s a home that fits the natural beauty of its’ place. And, most important, everything works!! We can’t wait to return!
